Test pH

Salt water
# Information
The pH value or "degree of acidity" gives an indication of how acidic or basic (alkaline) a water can be. It is a measuring tool for the concentration of the acidic or basic components of an aqueous solution. Pure water has a neutral reaction and has a pH value of 7. If the acidic components are present in greater quantity, the pH value drops, going to levels below 7.

If it is the basic components that are in excess, the pH value rises and goes to values above 7. In marine water aquariums the optimal range for the pH value fluctuates, for most fish and invertebrates, between 8.2 and 8.5. Many organisms react extremely sensitively to strong fluctuations in the pH value. A too sudden lowering or raising should absolutely be avoided.

The Elos AquaTest pH reagent, created specifically for marine water, makes it possible to check the pH value thanks to a colorimetric scale, on which a range of 7.6 - 9.0 pH units is shown.
